Day 7: Berry Pickin'

It's that time of year, when you can enjoy berries off the vine, make fresh berry pies and can your favorite jams.  It's also a great time to stock the freezer with berries, for when summer is a long distant memory...

Have you been berry picking, yet?  Right now, is prime time for picking a variety of fruits--blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and marionberries at the farm and even in the wild.  Mother Earth News has lots of great information on foraging for berries in the wild, including how to "think like a raspberry" and forage "like a bluejay," and warnings to heed before heading out to pick.  The article suggests picking up a reliable field guide as well, before consuming wild berries.
