CDC Calls the Flu Vaccine a Failure

In a new study out Thursday from the Centers for Disease Control, the vaccine proved effective just over half of the time. And among seniors who are 65 years old and older, one of the most vulnerable populations, the vaccine only offered nine percent protection (NBCNews.com).

I, for one, do not get the flu shot and likely never will.   Since receiving the flu shot is a personal choice, I urge everyone to become well informed about the flu shot.

As a chiropractor, I have nurses who are patients who are required to get the flu shot.  One nurse reported that they often all get vaccinated the same day—and that soon thereafter they are short staffed because so many of the nurses who had received the shot, have to call in sick. That goes counter to what I believe is health!

I also see it as a money maker for vaccination companies.  Why else would local grocery stores be displaying large banners stating they offer the flu shot?!  I prefer chiropractic which strengthens the body’s immune response—without injections.

Best in health, naturally,
Dr. Marc Davis

Habits of Healthy Eaters

Since taking up Crossfit and recently beginning the transition to a Paleo diet, I've had to take a close look at the food in my fridge and cupboards.  Many items had to go, while alternatives to certain foods had to be purchased.  However, and interestingly enough, shopping has become easier and more straight to the point.

Did you know that the route you take in the grocery store can help you make healthy eating choices and better help you avoid weight gain?  This article explains how shopping the outer perimeter will help you make healthy food purchases, along with giving strategies to help keep you on the healthy track while shopping in a store full of many not-so-healthy foods.

Have you read about the grocery store's Dirty Dozen?
Read here about what produce is best to buy organic.

Do you have strategies in place for when you grocery shop?
I'd love to know!

Where did all the fun people go?

Is this not perfect?

This weekend, I'm going to make a conscious effort to put down the smartphone and be fun.

More fun.

There is quality time to spend with the family, finger paint to make with the kiddos, and of course, at least one or two naps to take, and none of these require a smartphone.  And I have a feeling that the weekend without a smartphone attached to my hip will be that much more enjoyed.

Do you have smartphone/internet-free days of the week or month?

Have an adventurous weekend!
