Support the Lions Club Columbia Crest Garage Sale This Weekend!

In 1925 Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "Knights of the blind." Since then Lions everywhere have been committed to blindness prevention, and have been recognized throughout the world for their service to the blind and visually impaired. That includes Vancouver Lions. Although our cause has expanded over the years, it is Helen Keller‘s challenge that continues to guide us.

The Columbia Crest Garage Sale* is happening this weekend,
June 21 and 22nd (Friday and Saturday)
from 9-4pm
508 NE 139th Ave. Vancouver, WA 98684.

*This sale is part of a multi neighborhood sale.

All donations and proceeds go toward the Lions Club.  The Lions Club is a non-profit organization that helps those who need assistance receiving eye and hearing care.  Learn more about the Lions Club here.

Dr. Marc, a Lions Club member, appreciates your support with this cause.  Have fun shopping the sale this weekend!

Where did all the fun people go?

Is this not perfect?

This weekend, I'm going to make a conscious effort to put down the smartphone and be fun.

More fun.

There is quality time to spend with the family, finger paint to make with the kiddos, and of course, at least one or two naps to take, and none of these require a smartphone.  And I have a feeling that the weekend without a smartphone attached to my hip will be that much more enjoyed.

Do you have smartphone/internet-free days of the week or month?

Have an adventurous weekend!

Tired of the Cold, Rainy Weather? Here's Five Ideas to Brighten Up Your Weekend

By Cassie McCully

Though the first day of Spring--March 20th, is just around the corner,
consistent sunshine is a ways off for those of us living in the northwest.

Here's 5 ideas to brighten up your weekend:

1. Get out of the house.
It may not be sunny, but there are plenty of activities that will have you focusing on things other than the weather.  Visit the bookstore, take a walk or a hike, meet a friend for lunch or dress up in green and cheer on the 32,000 people participating in the annual Shamrock Run, benefiting the Doernbecher Children's Hospital, this Sunday, along the waterfront in Portland, Oregon.  The Vancouver Farmers Market opens this weekend, as well.

2. Drink (Sassy) Water.
Sassy Water is a refreshing combination of water, lemons, cucumber, spearmint and ginger.
It's kind to your metabolism and a pleasure to drink!  Here's the recipe.

3. Exercise.
Give your body an endorphin rush.
Even twenty minutes of exercise can boost your energy and mood, help decrease stress, ease depression, and make a positive impact on body image.

4.  Play games.
Games such as Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Solitaire are fun, cheap entertainment.  Scrabble, specifically, is a great way to increase language skills and exercise your mind muscles for long-term memory and retention.  Plus, a little competitiveness always livens things up, no?  I guess it could be for better or worse, depending on who you're playing with.

5.  Cook or bake something new.
Oatmeal-Raisin Breakfast Cookies

Maybe it'll be Corned Beef and Cabbage for the holiday weekend, or Energy Bites for the upcoming work-week?  Maybe you'll make some healthy cookies.  Yes, I said it--healthy. cookies.  Trying something new in the kitchen is a great way to change up the mundane and brighten the weekend!

So, what are you going to do?

P.S. Don't forget the upcoming Lunch N' Learn on Tuesday 3/20 at 12pm:
"Put Down the Diet and Step Away"
by Dr. Marc.
Make sure and get signed up before Tuesday to receive free lunch!

Activities for This Weekend's Sunshine

By Cassie McCully

With our warm days coming to an end, how do you plan to spend Friday and Saturday's sunshine?

For those of us who live in the greater Portland metropolitan area, we're lucky to have so many great places to visit and things to do.

Visit. Have you been to this local landmark lately?  This museum is hosting 'Harvest Fun' for the family.

Hike. This view is worth the climb, and this trail at the edge of the city is the perfect place for bike riding, stroller pushing, walking and running.

Market.  This market in Portland's Historic Old Town is a must-visit for out-of-towners and locals, alike.  In Southwest Washington?  This market is close by in Vancouver and is the second largest farmer's market in Washington.

Browse.  Looking for a new read?  This store's shelves just might pull you in for a few hours.

Eat. The calories are high and the lines are long, but this sweet shop has been talked about across the country.

Listen. Live music and dancing at this cultural festival in the city.

Anything to add?  Write to us in the comments!
